On November 7th at 7:30PM, former British Foreign Secretary David Miliband will be giving a major lecture in Campbell Hall on "Refugees and the Political Crisis of Our Time," hosted by Arts & Lectures. David Miliband now leads the International Rescue Committee, which provides humanitarian assistance to displaced persons around the world.

In preparation for his visit to UCSB, the Blum Center for Global Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development will host a Student Pop Up Discussion on the global refugee crisis, how it is being portrayed and addressed, and what these issues mean for international development, and the larger international system.

The discussion will draw on themes in Miliband's recent book, "Rescue: Refugees and the Political Crisis of Our Time," and will be moderated by Joanne Nowak, Blum Center Academic Coordinator, and Amanda Pinheiro, former investigative reporter and current PhD student in Global Studies focused on humanitarian, global migration and refugee issues. Participants in the Pop Up Discussion will receive a free copy of the book. Join us on Thursday, Nov. 1st at 7PM in RM 2320, Girvetz Hall. Food will be served.

** Please RSVP with Joanne Nowak: joanne.nowak@ucsb.edu, by Monday, October 29th.
