On Friday, January 11th at 1PM, Dr. Alex Schafran (Urban Geography, University of Leeds) will be providing a public lecture entitled "The Road to Resegregation: Northern California and the Failure of Politics", where he will examine such questions as: how can Northern California, which prides itself on its progressive politics, be home to some of the most racially and economically segregated communities in the United States? How do contemporary patterns compare to the past?

This talk will be followed by a Pop Up Discussion for students and faculty to further examine how race, class and geography have combined in California to create new forms of inequality. Please join us for this lecture and discussion on Friday, January 11th at 1PM in SSMS 2135.  Lunch will be served. RSVP with Joanne Nowak, Blum Center Academic Coordinator (joanne.nowak@ucsb.edu) by January 9th.

This event is co-sponsored by the Departments of Global Studies, History and the Blum Center for Global Poverty Alleviation and Sustainable Development.
