Are you passionate about criminal justice reform? Looking to hear the voices of those who have seen the inside of the prison system, and are fighting to change it? Wondering how to build a coalition of grassroots activists and allies to achieve this change?
On February 4th, Jerome Morgan, Daniel Rideau, and Robert Jones (activists, community organizers, and wrongfully incarcerated gentlemen) will give a talk at the MCC about their co-authored book, Unbreakable Resolve. Taken together, these men spent nearly 50 years in prison before being found innocent. Through their non-profit Free-Dem Foundations, they are working to provide alternative pathways for youth to stay out of the prison system.
The Blum Center is excited to further this dialogue by hosting a Pop Up Discussion featuring Jerome Morgan, Daniel Rideau and Robert Jones on Wednesday, February 5th from 12-1:30PM, in collaboration with Underground Scholars Santa Barbara. Drawing on their powerful life stories, we will discuss parallels between the prison system and slavery, internalized racism, community failure and healing, as well as grassroots organizing and change. The Pop Up will be moderated by three UCSB students, two of whom lead Underground Scholars Santa Barbara, a student club that supports and advocates for fellow formerly incarcerated students.
The first 12 students to sign up for the Pop Up Discussion will receive a free copy of Unbreakable Resolve. Join us for this discussion on Wednesday, February 5th from 12-1:30PM in 2320 Girvetz Hall.
Please RSVP with Blum Center Academic Coordinator, Joanne Nowak (joanne.nowak@ucsb.edu) by Tuesday, February 4th at 12PM. Lunch will be served. Please see the attached flyer for more details.
